The Mathematical Way to Find Love

Hey there! Juan and Michael are writing this after stuffing themselves with a bucket of KFC.
Michael went to a friend’s birthday party yesterday, he’s never been more surrounded by gay men in his life 😂. Was nice, great people. Happy Birthday, Vincent 😁!
Juan has been extremely busy working his 4 jobs and at the same time contemplating his future as a bald man.
Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Buy a gift now if you forgot lol.
In this newsletter, we throw a monkey wrench into your love life and make you question everything. And we also discuss better ways to jump-start your morning.
DATING
Did you settle too soon? 👩❤️👨

Source: The secretary problem in Algorithms to live by.
The following is a mathematical way to know when to stop looking and when to choose someone to date.
Imagine you are hiring a secretary and you have 100 people to choose from. You have to go through them one at a time and say “yes” or “no” before moving on to the next candidate. You can’t go back.
How many people should you go through? If you choose too early, you don’t know what’s out there. If you choose too late, maybe all the good options have passed you by.
The mathematically correct answer is going through the first 37 people (37% out of 100 people). You identify the best candidate out of those 37% of people. This person is now your benchmark and the next person you find who is better than this person, you choose them.
How can we apply this to dating?
We don’t know how many people we will date, but we can approximate. Let’s say on average people will date from the ages of 18-40.
What is 37% of the way? Around 26 years old.
Then, you look back into your past and find the one person that stood out the most. Next time you find someone you like more than your benchmark person, try to build a great relationship with them.
It is also easy to fall into the trap of doing a continuous search for the perfect person who doesn’t exist.

Morning Routine
The Miracle Morning

I’m trying to optimize my morning routine now, so I read this book called The Miracle Morning, by Hal Elrod. Which consists of a guide to a series of successful morning practices. His basic idea is that "The Morning is the Rudder of the Day," meaning that how your morning goes will determine how the rest of your day follows. So a productive morning more easily allows for a productive day.
The author went through many hardships, and he says getting his morning routine in order saved his life. So he called the acronym for his morning routine his Life SAVERS. Which stands for:
S: Silence (meditation)
A: Affirmations
V: Visualizations
E: Exercise
R: Reading
S: Scribing (writing/journaling)
You can do these in any order, it’s recommended to do them first thing in the morning. You want to start the day at least 30 minutes before you have to so that you can begin the day proactively instead of being entirely reactive.
The Affirmations and Visualizations part of this is where I see people being the most skeptical about. I used to put those types of things in the woo-woo category, but since I’ve read about these suggestions in a handful of books, I gave them more consideration. The idea for both is to remind yourself daily what your goals are, to make sure you keep moving in the direction of the dream version of yourself.
Try adding some of these things into your routine. I’m going to be working on following each of these each morning for the rest of this month at least.
